The Paper Landmine Print Project.... Artist's Statement

Bella, Bella 2002
14" diameter. Letterpress, relief (polymer, woodcut, linocut, sandragraph), and digital inkjet print on stenciled handmade paper. Edition of 40 for an exchange portfolio plus roman numeral edition of 25. A round print resembling a pizza that details in one wedge the history of pizza and in another the history of Italian landmines. $500

This first Cambodian landmine print was created following my research visit there in January, 2002, and is printed on paper made from clothing of mine victims I met there, bamboo fiber from minefields, and currency of nations whose mines and ordnance are found in Cambodia. It shows a variety of tropical fruits and a life-size image of a Chinese Type 72 landmine. $500

The third Cambodian landmine print briefly tells the story of a mine victim, Lim Sokheng, whom I met at the Kien Khleang Rehabiltation Center. $500

UXO-POW 2002
16.25" x 13.5". Woodcut, letterpress, and polymer relief on handmade paper. Edition 25.
The fourth Cambodian landmine print tells the story of Maes Pow, a victim at age 8 of unexploded ordnance, and includes a definition of UXO. $500
